Senator Schumer at the brewery

Senator Schumer paid a visit to the Rohrbach brewery this morning to discuss a very important issue. The FDA is looking to pass the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), a law that prevents breweries and distilleries from giving their spent grain to farmers. This is something that Rohrbachs has been doing for many years. This relationship with farmers benefits their industry, by providing free feed for their animals, and prevents us from having to dump the grain in a landfill. Schumer spoke out against the new law in the presence of our brewers, reps from Black Button Distilling, Roc Brewing, Genesee Brewery, CB’s, and more. We thank Senator Schumer for his support of small business, the craft beer industry, and agriculture.

Cooking with Rohrbachs

Highland Lager Lemon Chicken

highland_chicken

Ingredients:

1 cup Highland Lager
1/4 lemon juice
3 tbsp soy sauce
1 1/2 tbsp olive oil
2 tsp chopped fresh oregano
1 tsp chopped fresh thyme
1 tsp ground black pepper
2 tsp honey
1/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
3 garlic cloves, minced
4 whole (6 oz) skinless, boneless chicken breast halves

cooking spray

Directions:

1. Combine first 10 ingredients in a large zip-top plastic bag. Add chicken; seal and marinate in refrigerator 3 hours, turning bag occasionally.

2. Remove the chicken from bag; discard marinade.
3. Prepare grill to medium-high. Place chicken on grill rack coated with cooking spray; grill 5 minutes on each side or until done.

Recipe yields 4 servings of juicy, tender chicken full of flavor! The photo above shows the chicken served with rice, cooked edamame, and butternut squash, but will go great with any sides, and a glass of Highland Lager, of course.

redwing_anniversary

This week marks the 20th anniversary of Rohrbach’s Red Wing Red Ale.

We have been brewing this beer for Frontier Field’s Rochester Red Wings for a long time, but the taste never gets old. Brewed in the american amber style, this ale is highlighted by its caramel malts. One sip and you know it’s finally summer again. So, head to the stadium, order a pint, and make sure to get a Red Osier roast beef sandwich. The perfect game, the perfect summer day.

Cheers to twenty years!
