At Rohrbachs we not only care for our community, but for our environment as well. We’re working towards cleaner, more efficient ways to brew our beers each and every day. We donate all of our spent grain to local farmers. Spent grain is what’s left over after we strip the wurt from the first boil. The spent grain still holds the nutrients and proteins that are healthy for farmers’ animals.
All of our growlers are recycled and reused. We encourage you to return them to us at either location, or at your closest Wegmans. The decision to can our beer instead of bottle is also one for sustainability. Aluminum cans leave a much smaller carbon footprint for a number of reasons. They are more commonly recycled by consumers, lighter for transportation, and offer big energy-saving when reused again. With the use of cans, a paper label is also not needed.
Our brewers try to use local ingredients as much as possible. With the growing hop farm industry in New York, it is slowly becoming easier. We also now grow our own small batches of hops behind the brewpub.
We have made a stand to become a more “green” business. Rohrbachs has learned so much about sustainability and environmentally-friendly brewing, and we can’t wait to do more!
